Taken inside the rustic church near the altar, as if after the Sunday service. Rev. James Mahan was the second vicar of the St. Barnabas Episcopal Mission and stayed there from 1959-1963.
The photo was taken inside the building being used as their place of worship, an 1848 fachwerk structure built by the Peter Walter family, one of the first families in Fredericksburg. A member of the third generation of that family sold the property to the church in 1954.
